Choosing a mode - Lesson 2

Modes to use over Blues progressions
The pentatonic scale with the added blue note is an amazing tool. But when you begin to use modes over that fundamental scale, the number of melodic options you get explodes. Here are the modes that you can apply to the blues scale. You can use:
  • The Dorian mode built on the root of you tonic. A blues uses A dorian.
  • The corresponding Mixolydian mode built from the root of each chord.
  • The Lochrian mode built on the major third of each chord.
